Arto Vaun is a poet and songwriter originally from Boston. His book-length poem, Capillarity, was published by Carcanet in 2009. His poems and essays have appeared in various anthologies and magazines. He’s been interviewed by the BBC, Boston Globe, and other media outlets. As a musician, Vaun has shared bills (first as Mishima USA) with artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Daniel Johnston, Ben Kweller, Kimya Dawson, Mark Eitzel, & the War on Drugs. His most recent album is The Cynthia Sessions.

He’s the founder/former director of the Center for Creative Writing and the former chair of the English and Communications BA program at the American University of Armenia, where he was also Assistant Professor and Program Chair. In 2016 he launched Locomotive, a journal of international writing. Vaun studied at UMass-Boston, Harvard University, Bennington College, and the University of Glasgow. He holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Huddersfield. He has lived in Glasgow, Berlin, Beirut, and Yerevan (with stints in Los Angeles and Virginia).

He is currently the Executive Director of Project Save Photograph Archives in Boston.
